Records indicate that in 1893 the USPS adopted a double-breasted coat as winter outerwear. Tracing period photographs suggests that this jacket design dates to around the 1920s. While presenting a formal appearance, it features a reinforced patch on the left shoulder, intended to support the carrying of a shoulder bag—an element that allows functionality to coexist with refinement.

The striped fabric used for this garment is based on mélange stripe textiles found in French jackets from the 1920s and 1930s. Analysis revealed a construction using five different warp yarns and a rare warp double-weave structure. Careful consideration was given to yarn thickness and combinations, resulting in an original fabric developed specifically for this piece.
