LOT.607 SWEAT COAT
Choose options
In 1920s America, there existed a sweatshirt-based jacket known as the “sweat coat.” This piece is based on that garment.
Sweat coats of the period used buttons made from materials commonly found in industrial products before the invention of plastics such as Bakelite. The garments were constructed from a variety of contrasting materials, including the collar and front placket, as well as circular-knit ribbed cuffs and waistband.
Though simple in appearance at first glance, sweat coats were in fact characterized by complex and intricate material compositions and construction. In this piece, those elements have been extracted as faithfully as possible and reinterpreted through a personal lens, reconstructing the garment into a form distinct from the original sweat coat.
Nut buttons are used for the closures.
The mud dye finish is applied through garment dyeing, giving the piece the nuanced expression unique to product-dyed garments.
