LOT.410 MACKINAW COAT

This coat is an arrangement based on a U.S. Army Mackinaw coat from the 1930s. The Mackinaw coat itself is originally from blanket coats made for British troops stationed in Canada in the early 19th century, giving the design a long and established history. “Mackinaw” refers to a place name in Canada. Beyond military use, the design was widely adopted by mountain workers and as civilian fashion in the early 20th century, valued for its versatility.

With the intention of presenting the piece as daily wear rather than military attire, the waist belt has been removed and the design has been reconfigured with particular attention to details such as lapel balance and stitch width. To express the collection’s theme of snow, two layers of wool fabric are bonded using a needle-punch technique. The traces left by the needles emerge as a buffalo check pattern, evoking the appearance of falling snow.
