As an artist, Taiga Takahashi used to wear a jumpsuit during creative production, which is marked by whitish paint stains. Though accidental, the stains seem to reflect his minimalist aesthetics. In the garment by T.T, we imagined him surviving and continuing creative productions and expressed the future evidence of his presence.
The Jacket originates from an unbranded American coverall from the 1910 discovered in a coal mine. T.T's coverall jacket is a fruit of our fascination for a vintage jacket added to Takahashi's collection after over a century. 1920s was the time when mass production and consumption began in the US. In the wave of massive transformation in industries triggered by the American capitalism, manufacturing departed from the tradition of craftsmanship characterized by meticulous attention to each work and shifted to a system enabling mass production requiring no skills. Workwear worn by laborers, the supporter of economy at the bottom of the hierarchy, are eloquent witnesses of the era. All design elements, from simplified linear sewing and flat patterns to resilient fabric and practical pocket shapes, are specifically purposed for durability. What we call "design" today is virtually nonexistent. This jacket, in particular, is more like a tool than a garment. The buttons and backside parts marked with original engravings are all made of iron, which is uncoated to produce aged beauty over time.COTTON 100%
