The entrance of T.T Gion Store is paved with Aji stone mined in Kagawa Prefecture.
Recorded history of Aji stone, one of the world's finest granites, can go back to the reconstruction of Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine around the 14th century. To capture the stone's time in our clothing, we used frottage technique to transfer its unique surface pattern onto a kasuri-like cotton-rayon fabric. The shirt body is based on Italian-collar shirts of the 1950s made in the US, where they were popular as casual resort wear during the postwar economic boom. Characterized by a neckline curvier than the open collar, the shirt provided perfect relaxation when T-shirts were still not part of resort fashion.
