KAMISOE PRINT

During the post-war economic boom, Italian collar shirts were popular at resorts. Characterized by the opening curvier than open collar shirts, it was a perfect item to look relaxed when T-shirts were still not part of the resort culture. To fully present the bold all-over print using the technique of "Yuzen dyeing" of Kyoto, the design adopts the seamless Italian collar and a single welt pocket as the minimum detail. The print on the cotton-rayon fabric is a meticulous replication of the Japanese paper (washi) wallpaper of Sabi, a tearoom inside T.T, a comprehensive art space designed by Taiga Takahashi. The wallpaper is made of joined and pasted hand- made Japanese paper (washi) pieces, each of which carrying manually drawn ink patterns. This is a special work created by Taiga Takahashi in collaboration with "Kamisoe", a karakami paper workshop in Nishi jin, Kyoto.
