LOT.601 TEE SHIRT

The T-shirt is one of America's most iconic garments. The T-shirt has a history of being developed as underwear to be worn under uniforms and military uniforms, and as I researched how this garment was made, I found that it was the result of America's rational approach to manufacturing. The fabric is knitted in a tubular shape, called a "marudo," and has holes for the neck and arms, and sleeves. It is similar in appearance to what is worn daily in modern times, but completely different in nature. The design is extracted from the design of the time, with no sloping shoulders, a boat neck, and double-layered neck ribs to prevent stretching. The jersey fabric is made on a suspension knitting machine in Wakayama, using USA cotton, which gives the fabric a unique texture with a dry feel. The hang knitting machine, which was introduced to Japan in the Taisho era (1912-1926) and is currently the only one in the world operating in Wakayama Prefecture, can knit only one meter per hour, which is very inefficient, but the slow process results in a fabric with a unique texture with just the right amount of unevenness, as if air were knitted together with the fabric. This season, the brand also produces faded bleached colors based on sweatshirts found in California that have lost their color due to deterioration over time. 100% COTTON
