Garment Background

The deep rise, straight-legged Engineer Trousers have a flat front, two side slash pockets, a coin pocket, and horizontal back slash pockets, reinforced with patches for additional strength. They are inspired by vintage workwear trousers worn in 1950s America to conduct heavy labour in fields and factories. Takahashi referenced a pair of vintage trousers he found in Ohio, U.S.A. that were made to withstand heavy toiling through their construction, which included fortified pockets. Interested in how these elements were not design features but practical, these trousers have been designed to last over time too. Takahashi's design has been realised using organic cotton customised eleven-ounce selvedge twill, inspired by 1910s U.S. military fabric. They have a nut button, concealed button fly and are dyed using ancient plant and mud dyeing techniques.
