Garment Background

The peaked lapel, double-breasted DB Sack Suit is inspired by American sack suits worn in the 1920s. Based on a suit found through a vintage dealer in New York, U.S.A., the cut and construction are based on how the pinch back enabled a range of motion and functionality in a period when no artificial stretch fibres were in existence. The angular pleats that Takahashi has referenced sit above the half-belt and reflect the streamlined and sleek forms that were characteristic of the Art Deco movement of the 1920s. The DB Sack Suit has been made using 1910s military-inspired organic cotton customised eleven-ounce left-hand selvedge twill and features three front patch and action pleat pockets. The buttons are naturally dyed and made from nuts, and the cotton is dyed using plant and mud dyeing techniques.
